Wayne Gibson Records His 1st
On Sunday, July 25th, while playing at the beach, Wayne Gibson had his first career Hole-in-One. This notorious event happened on the 16th hole at Wild Dunes on the Links Course. Mr. Gibson grabbed his brand new 9 iron out of bag, that hadn't been hit but maybe 3 times, and flew his ball right into the hole! He is wandering if it was the club or the lessons from Luke....we think it was a combination of both!
Way to Go Mr. Gibson!

Isaac Abee scores Eagle
While playing in the Parent-Child Tournament this Sunday with Chip Galloway and his family, Isaac Abee made a 3 on the par 5 4th hole here at Pine Lake. The format of the tournament was a two-person catpain's choice but Isaac needed no help from his father Mark on this hole. Isaac hit his drive right down the middle of the fairway taking the pressure off of his father for his shot. Isaac got to his ball which was about 225 yards from the green, pulled out his 3 wood and ripped it right toward the green. At this point Mark just got in the cart and drove his son up to the green. They found the ball just off the front of the green on the fringe about 30 feet from the hole. Isaac rolled in the thirty footer to make an eagle for team Abee. Isaac looked at his father and said "Happy Father's Day"! Mark and Isaac Abee finished in second place in the 11-12 age group with a score of 36. Congrats to Isaac!

Ledermann Holes out on #8
This was no ordinary Friday afternoon at Pine Lake Country Club. While playing with Greg Garman, "The" Ernie Lambert and Mike Foley (the "witness"), it was stated that George Ledermann hit his 3rd shot into the hole from 125 yards. Rumor has it, he grabbed his 4 iron from his bag (which he thought was a 9 iron) and hit the shot of his life! They all watched in pure shock as the ball rolled up the fairway and into the cup for an Eagle 3!
Congratulations Mr. Ledermann! Keep up the great work!

David Vergoz Aces #16
What a great way to spend Easter....playing golf with your buddies!! We are not really sure whether to believe this one or not, as his wife had one right at 5 months ago to the day, and he was playing with Bob Sim, Ed Rand, and Curt Moore, but according to all of them, David Vergoz has his first ever Hole-in-One! This blessed event happened on Hole #16, which was apparently playing 175 yards that day. Mr. Vergoz retrieved his 5 iron out of his bag and proceeded to skip his ball across the pond which then ended up in the bottom of the cup??
Way to go Mr. Vergoz! That is Amazing!

Karl Grubb Eagles #7
On Sunday, March 7th, while playing with Gary Wojciechowicz, Karl Grubb celebrates an eagle on Hole #7. He was a mere 195 yards away from the flag, so he grabbed his 3 hybrid. The wind was a little in his face..... They all watched in pure excitement as his ball rolled into the hole for a 2.
Way to go Mr Grubb! Keep up the great work!

Vince O'Connor has yet another ace....
Believe it or not, there has been some people playing golf....January 20th, was one of those few "opportune" days. The lucky gentlemen that were playing with Vince O'Connor were Barry Watson and Skip Copp. The event for the day was "Closest to the Pin" set up by "Cappie" Dennis Forsloff. The blue tee marker on hole #12 was located right around the 184 yd sprinkler head, so Mr. O'Connor decided to grab his ole faithful 3 wood out of his bag since the pin was located towards the right middle of the green and he wanted to make sure he would win the Closest to the Pin award away from "THE" Jimmy Boyles. He used one of his brand new golf balls given to him as a Christmas present by Glen Horne with "Bagger Vince" printed on it. The group watched in pure astonishment as his ball hit the green, shot up the hill, paused right at the crest of the hill, then started coming down towards the flag and finally coming to rest at the bottom of the cup for yet another ace.
Way to go Mr. O'Connor!! Keep up the Great Work!!

Caleb Little scores 1st Ace!
UNC-Chapel Hill freshman Caleb Little was home on break Sunday December 27th when he scored his first ever hole-in-one! Caleb is the son of Mark Little, who had a hole in one on #16 back in May of this year. Caleb walked up to #3 which was playing roughly 155 yards, grabbed his 9-iron out of his bag and proceeded to hit the shot of a lifetime! His father and playing partners Al Willis and nephew Lucas watched in amazement as the ball jumped right in the hole. Caleb, a little too young to "celebrate" this moment, will never forget this years school break.
CONGRATULATIONS CALEB!

Jack Wells celebrates his first!
On Sunday, November 8th, while playing in the "Skins" game, Jack Wells had his first ever Hole-in-One! His playing cohorts, Jim Dean, Don Puckett and Warren Leary watched in pure astonishment as Mr. Wells grabbed his 5 wood out of his golf bag and hit his infamous "slap shot" into the hole. This all happened on Hole #12, which was playing a mere 190 yards that day.
Congratulations Mr. Wells!

On Wednesday, November 4th, while playing in the 18 Holers last event, The Turkey Scramble, Karen Deierhoi aka The Dutches, makes her first ever Hole-in-One. This momentous occasion happened on Hole #6, playing 172 yds that day, so The Dutches decides to grab her driver. Her playing companions, Jody McCann (Goaty Jody), Pat Lowry (Putting Princess), and Lee Forsloff (Captain) watched in amazement as her ball was gobbled up by the hole!

Diane Heath Has Another Ace!
It was just an ordinary Saturday Catfight, so Mrs. Heath thought, on August 29th.....While playing with Carol Burnett, Michele Kelly, and Sue Wilson, Diane Heath recorded her 6th, yes 6th career hole-in-one! Believe it or not, this happened on Hole #3...since we haven't many aces on that hole.... Mrs. Heath grabbed her favorite club, her 3 iron, out of the bag and then proceeded to watch as she knocked the ball in the 135 yard hole!
Way to Go Mrs. Heath!

2009 CGA Pro-Junior
On August 10th The Club at Irish Creek hosted the 2009 Pro-Junior Tournament. The event was, as ever well supported and had a format of Modified Alternate Shot. This year Pine Lake sent two teams into battle. Brian McLaughlin and Charlie Kilzer are veterans in this event and had posted top five finishes in past years. Luke Smith and Chad Cox were new to this event and format but were up for the challenge.
The day brought searing heat and humidity, neither of which effected the Pine Lake teams as they buckled down and began to throw birdies at the course. Throughout the round the Pine Lake teams were able to see how they were fairing against each other, fist pumps were a frequent sight as "Team McLaughlin" began to roll the rock with a great deal of precision. However Smith and Cox got on a run that produced a basket a birdies and took them eventually to the winners podium, posting 6 under par was good enough to clinch first place. Team McLaughlin and Kilzer also finished well at 3 under par taking another fifth place position.

Charlie Kilzer finishes 4th in Charlotte City Amateur!
The 2009 Charlotte City Amateur brought 103 total players to Carolina Golf and Country Club on Friday, August 15th. Three players in the field this year have played in the U.S. Open (David Strawn, Johnny Elam and Roy Hunter), one Masters participant (David Strawn), two former Carolinas Amateur champions (Nolan Mills and Steve Slayden) and a former Mid-Am champion (Macon Moye). Along side of these well known amateur golfers was 16 year old and Pine Lake member, Charlie Kilzer. Charlie Kilzer posted an opening round 73 at Carolina that put him in position to make the cut to 59 players that would play Saturday at Myers Park Country Club. Saturday's round was just about flawless for Charlie who would post a score of 68 putting him in second place overall after two rounds. The final cut was made and now the field of 103 was down to just 24 for Sunday's round at Quail Hollow Country Club. Charlie, who had just wanted to make the final round, now is looking through a new window playing in the final group of the tournament. The weather on Sunday played a big factor as storms delayed play for about 2 hours. Charlie remained within a couple shots of the lead all day until the "Green Mile" of Quail Hollow came upon him. Charlie would go on to bogey the last three holes of the tournament to post a final round score of 78 and 219. Charlie finished the tournament 5 shots off the lead, but what a great effort.
Well played Charlie Kilzer!
